Father's Day

Today is Father's Day and it is the best father's day I have ever experienced. I started off the day with my favorite breakfast, a coffee smoothie (aka a frappe). I read a little of Bossypants, which finally arrived from the awesome NYPL. It is a quick read and I am already almost finished. After that my dad opened the two gifts my brother and I had got for him. Truffle infused olive oil from O and Co. and slippers from Ugg.
I must tell you that I despise Ugg Boots, the classic style. Their slippers are a whole other story. After my brother told me about them I have been dreaming about owning a pair. Unfortunately the slippers were too big for my dad, we were instructed to go up a size, but it was too much. We had bought them at Lord and Taylor, but my dad decided we should just go and get the other size.
I have to tell you all that I HATE department stores, Lord and Taylor being the exception to the rule. Lord and Taylor is quite, calm, and never crowded, but not creepy and deserted either. We went up to the men's floor and exchanged the slippers. Then we walked around the store a bit until we got hungry. We ended up sitting in the women's shoe department for quite sometime deciding where to eat and not a single salesperson bothered us. I love this place!
We went to Noho Star, one of my parents typical choices. My dad had a craving for a hearty salad, and their Caesar salad is his favorite. My mother and I both got eggs. Mine with a potato pancake that was very good; nice and crunchy on the edges like I like and hers with home fries that were sprinkled with what looked like a lot of rosemary, but after a taste I was surprised to discover it was quite delicious!
After our late lunch, which included a free beer for my pops because of father's day, we headed east to the Lower East Side.
Outside the restaurant I spotted a classmate of mine from elementary school, once again a reminder that New York is the biggest and the smallest city. We walked across Houston and stopped at Il Laboratorio del Gelato for some chocolate and mocha gelato for my dad. The line was long and full of tourists, which was annoying, but I quickly moved on. The gelato was incredibly rich and wonderful, but just the type of thing he loves.
We continued on Houston until Clinton so that I could FINALLY try the chocolate bread pudding at Dessert Truck. They now have a shop at 6 Clinton Street and I sat with my parents and enjoyed it with the vanilla custard sauce as I was not feeling adventurous enough for the bacon version. It was good, my mother thought it was the best bread pudding ever, but I have to disagree. I like a bread pudding with a lot of bread-y bits, and a variety of textures. This bread pudding had the bread-y edges, but most of it was extremely custard-y and I felt like I was just eating chocolate pudding. My favorite bread pudding is from Whole Foods surprisingly. I try bread pudding whenever I see it on the menu because it is one of my favorite desserts, but Whole Foods is always the best! It has chunks of bread, it is sweet and buttery and rich and ahhh now I wants it!
We walked around the LES for a bit longer and then went to the Delancey Street station to take the train home. Unfortunately it is the weekend which means SERVICE CHANGES which are evil and so irritating. They never have the signs up before you get onto the platform. We figured it out, but for a second I thought we had wasted a good deal of money of nothing.
At home we all rested for a few hours. I finished Bossypants, watched Cheers on Netflix instant. A little after seven we went over to one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants, RUB, for some Righteous Urban Barbeque. YUM! We walked around a bit after dinner and called it a night. I spent the rest of the evening watching Season One of The Big C and reading my other books.

I hope everyone else had a lovely day. More tomorrow! And hopefully I will remember to take pictures for this blog so it looks more enticing!
